Then were there brought unto Him little children, that He should put His hands on them and pray.        (Matthew 19:13)

Children's To Children's Home Page The Flood

When Noah, his family and the animals were safe inside the ark God shut the door. The flood gates opened and the rain started pouring down. It rained for forty days and nights and the waters lifted the ark. Everything on the earth was covered with water, the ark swirled around, inside Noah looked after and fed the animals. Then after 150 days God sent a wind and the water started to decrease.

The ark rested on the top of a mountain called Ararat. After forty days Noah opened the window and sent out a raven. It kept flying back and forth looking for somewhere to perch but found none, so came back to the ark. Then he sent out a dove but she returned not finding anywhere to perch. Noah waited another 7 days, then sent the dove out again. This time she returned with a olive leaf in her beak. Noah knew the waters were receding. He sent the dove out again in a week. This time she did not return as she had found somewhere to make her nest.

Before long Noah could see the mountain tops around him and then the dry ground. When the ground was completely dry God opened the door and every person and creature that went into the ark came out. The first thing that Noah did was to built an altar and make a sacrifice to thank God for His kindness. In the sky God set a rainbow as a sign that He would never flood the whole earth again.
