Then were there brought unto Him little children, that He should put His hands on them and pray.        (Matthew 19:13)

Children's To Children's Home Page Calming the Sea

Jesus and his disciples got in a boat to cross the sea. Many of the disciples had been fishermen and were used to sailing in all kinds of weather conditions.

As they crossed over a great storm grew up, the waves crashed on the side of the boat and the boat started to fill with water. Jesus was asleep in the back of the boat. His disciples woke him. "Teacher, don't you care that we are perishing?". They were afraid.

Jesus stood up and spoke to the wind and the sea. "Peace, be still!". Immediately the wind stopped and the sea was calm.

Jesus said to the disciples, "Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?" The disciples did not truly understand who Jesus was. He had power over nature and with Jesus we should never be afraid.
