Daniel - taken into captivity

It was a sad time for the Jews. Their homes and the Temple had been destroyed and the people had been taken to Babylon as slaves. The king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, instructed his teachers to take the best of the slaves and train them so they could work for him. Four of these slaves chosen were Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

Daniel and his friends were given special food to eat but Daniel knew this food had been offered to idols and he did not want to be associated with the Babylonian idols as he served the one true God.

Daniel's teacher was worried. He said "If you don't eat this food you'll go weak and the king will be angry with me."

But Daniel said,  "Just give me and my friends vegetables and water for ten days and then see how we are."

So their teacher did as Daniel asked.

At the end of the ten days Daniel and his friends were brought before Nebuchadnezzar. They looked very healthy and when they were tested, they passed with flying colours and were even ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers in Bablyon.
