ELIJAH v 450 prophets of Baal

 

One day God sent Elijah to king Ahab. King Ahab was a bad king, he did not do what God had said in the Bible. When King Ahab saw Elijah he called him a trouble maker but Elijah had a message for him from God.

"Gather all Israel and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel and we will see who is the true God." said Elijah. The next day everyone stood on Mount Carmel. Then Elijah turned to the people and said...

The prophets of Baal prepared their altar and called on their god, Baal, to light it. Nothing happened. They leapt about the altar, still nothing happened. At noon Elijah said " Cry louder, he may be busy or on a journey, or perhaps he's asleep." They danced more wildly and cut themselves but there was still no fire from Baal.

It was then Elijah's turn. He built an altar out of twelve stones and made a trench around it. He put wood and the bull on the top. Elijah then asked for four waterpots to be filled with water and poured on the altar. This was done three times and the water flowed into the trench around the altar. Then Elijah prayed...

God heard Elijah and immediately fire came down from heaven and burnt up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the dust and licked up the water that was in the trench.

 

When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said .....

"The LORD, He is God!

The LORD, He is God!"

That day Elijah showed all the people that there is only one true God who hears us and is able to answers our prayers.
