ELIJAH, Taken up to Heaven
Elijah often felt that he was the only one who served Sod but God told him that there were many others and that he had to go and anoint the man who was to be the next prophet in Elijah's place. The name of the new prophet was Elisha.
Elijah found Elisha in a field ploughing with some oxen. Elijah throw his cloak over Elisha as a sign that he was to leave this job and come and work with him. Elisha left the oxen and ran after Elijah. "Can I go and say goodbye to my mum and dad first?" Elisha made a feast for all the people he knew and then followed Elisha and became his servant.
Over the next few years Elisha worked for Elijah. One day God told Elijah that he would soon go to Heaven. He would not die, as everyone else, but be taken up into Heaven in a chariot of fire.
Elijah had to go to Jordan.. He asked Elisha to stay behind but Elisha said "As the LORD Sod lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!", so the two of them went on together...
As they travelled along they were met by the sons of the prophets who said to Elisha "Do you know that God will take Elijah away today?" "Yes I do, keep quiet" replied Elisha..
Elijah and Elisha arrived at the River Jordan. Elijah took off his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water. The water divided and the both of them walked across to the other side.
As the walked Elijah said "What can I do for you before I am taken?" Elisha thought and said "Please let me have a double portion of your blessing from God.." "You've asked a hard thing, but if you see me when I'm taken you will receive it." replied Elijah.
Suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses and Elijah was taken up by it in a whirlwind to heaven. Only Elijah's cloak was left. Elisha picked it up and went back to the river Jordan. He did as Elijah had done before, rolled up the cloak and hit the water and said....
"Where is the LORD God of Elijah?"
The waters divided and Elisha crossed over. The prophets, who were watching, wee amazed for they saw that Elisha now had that power that Elijah had.
"Shall we go and look for Elijah?" the prophets said, but Elisha said there was no point. He knew Elijah was now in heaven.
Everyone who loves God and has their sins forgiven will, one day, go to be with God in Heaven.
