Then were there brought unto Him little children, that He should put His hands on them and pray.        (Matthew 19:13)

Children's To Children's Home Page Esther Part 2

A few days later Esther put on her best clothes and went to see King Ahasuerus. When he saw her put out his sceptre, which meant she could come near. The king asked her what she wanted.

Esther invited him and Haman to a banquet. At the banquet the king asked again, "What is your request? You can have up to half the kingdom." Esther asked if Haman and the king would come to another banquet tomorrow and then she would answer his question.

Haman went home so happy. He was so pleased that only he and the king had been invited to the banquet with Esther. However as he went by the gate there was Mordecai who would not bow down. Haman was livid and went home to tell his wife. "You should build a gallows, 75 feet high and hang him tomorrow." This pleased Haman and he decided that this is what he would do.

That night Ahasuerus could not sleep. So he called tor the record books to be brought to him. They read out the part about Mordecai saving the life of the king. "What did we do for Mordecai?" the king asked. "Nothing!" was the reply. This didn't please the king. "Who is in the palace?" said Ahasuerus.

He wanted someone to help him think of a way to reward Mordecai

Haman had just come to the palace to ask the king for permission to hang Mordecai on the gallows he had put up. Haman was brought before the king."What should be done for the man the king delights to honour?" the king asked Haman.

Haman said, "Let one of the king's royal robes be put on him. Then get one of the king's noble princes to lead him, on the king's own horse, through the city telling everyone, 'This is what is done to the man the king delights to honour' ". Haman was thinking the king was going to honour him but his face dropped when the king told him to hurry and do everything he had said to Mordecai.

Haman felt humiliated as he lead Mordecai through the street. When he went home he moaned to his wife about what had happened. Just then a messenger came from the king's palace to bring Haman to the next banquet with Esther and Ahasuerus.
