Then were there brought unto Him little children, that He should put His hands on them and pray. (Matthew 19:13)
When Jesus arrived at a new place many people gathered to see him. One day a man called Jairus came to Jesus with an urgent plea. He fell at Jesus' feet and said "My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed and live."
Jesus went with Jairus but as they pushed through the crowd Jesus stopped. He knew someone had touched him and that they also wanted to be healed.
This delay would have made Jairus anxious as his twelve year old daughter was very ill. Then Jairus got the news he did not want to hear. Some people from Jairus' house came to him and said "Your daughter is dead. Don't trouble the Teacher any more."
When Jesus heard this he said to Jairus "Do not be afraid; only believe." Jesus stopped the crowd following them and went on to Jairus' house with him and three of his disciples. Peter, James and John.
As they approached they saw a large crowd weeping and wailing loudly. "What's all the commotion? The child is not dead but sleeping" said Jesus but many of the people laughed at him.
Jesus sent everybody out of the house except Jairus and his wife. They went into the room were the girl was lying. Jesus took her hand and said to her, "Talitha, cumi," which means "Little girl, I say to you arise". Immediately she got up and walked. Everyone was amazed. Jesus told them not to tell anyone and to go and get her something to eat.
