Hello, my name is Margaret and I attend Dovecot Evangelical Church. This is my testimony
to the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
My Uncle Charlie, who had been a Christian for many years, invited me to Sunday worship
at Dovecot, saying I needed to get right with God.
I didn’t know what he meant by ‘getting right with God’, so I went along because
he kept asking me to. Over several months I listened to the gospel being preached,
it was all about Jesus’ love, His death on the cross to save sinners and accepting
Him as Saviour. I remember thinking to myself that I had tried to keep the commandments
and I wasn’t a bad person. Surely I wasn’t going to be condemned to Hell.
I started reading the Bible for myself, something I had not done since my early teens.
I was sure I would find it written somewhere that ‘ordinary, good people’ would go
to Heaven for just – well being ordinary and good. I found the opposite!
One evening I started to read from Romans Chapter 8 : “There is therefore now no
condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh,
but according to the Spirit.” That verse spoke to me. I was not walking with Christ
Jesus, I was walking according to the flesh, trying to keep the commandments was
not going to get me into Heaven. I had fallen at the first one; I had never loved
the Lord God with all my heart, soul and mind. I was indeed a sinner in need of the
Saviour.
I prayed there and then, thanking the Lord Jesus for dying for me on the cross for
my sins and asking Him for forgiveness and to come into my life. I had got right
with God. That was twenty four years ago and the Lord is still with me and has blessed
me with a happy marriage and healthy children.
It has been my privilege to serve Him at Dovecot Church where I have been involved
in the work of our children’s Good News Club and also by helping at our Mums and
Tots Group.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,A broken and a contrite heart These, O
God, You will not despise.
