Then were there brought unto Him little children, that He should put His hands on them and pray. (Matthew 19:13)
After Jesus was born, it was the custom to take the child to the temple at Jerusalem to be named.
So Mary and Joseph took the Baby Jesus to Jerusalem. In the Temple there was a very old man called Simeon.
He had been told that he wouldn't die before seeing the promised Saviour, who was Jesus. When he saw Mary and Joseph he realised that this baby was the Saviour who had been promised in the old Testament. He then took Jesus up in his arms.
"Now I can die for I have seen your salvation."
Simeon spoke to Mary and told her that Jesus would die a terrible death and this would hurt her.
As they were speaking an old woman called Anna came into the Temple. She also loved God and had waited for the promised Saviour. She was so happy and gave thanks to God for Jesus. After this she left Jesus she told others in the Temple the good news.
