This is a question we often hear today, we are all use to getting text messages on the mobilephone,
but what do we expect when we pick up the text message?
We expect to find :-
These are the same questions that many have asked when they have read the text messages in this book, the Bible.
Who sent the text message ?
Just as each of the messages I get on my mobile phone tell me who has sent it, so the Bible tells us that its message is sent from God. As we read through the Bible time and time again we read words like "and God said", the Bible also says "that All Scripture is given by inspiration of God" (2 Timothy 3:16).
This book, the Bible is a message that comes to us directly from God.
What is the message ?
The Bible starts by telling us that "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). God made us and for a purpose, so that we might please God and enjoy all that he made.
In the Bible, God laid down rules for us to live by (the 10 commandments). If everybody kept them then the world would be a very different place: no stealing, no lying, no adultery, no strife. However, that’s not how it is, we all break the laws that God gave us, the Bible says: "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
God's message also says that "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23), This means that the consequences of our
individual sins are serious. The reason that there is suffering and death in our world is that the very first man sinned by breaking God's law and that everyone of us has broken God’s law also.
However not only does the Bible message tell us of consequences of sin, it also gives us hope, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16). The good news is that God has made a way in which we can have the punishment that is due to us for our sins taken by someone else, that is, by His Son, Jesus Christ .
"Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.... He was buried and that he rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:3)
Why did God send this message to me ?
God sent you this message so that you can see your position before Him, the consequences of what you have done and so that you can do something about it. God now commands all men and women everywhere to turn away from doing wrong and to believe on His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.
"but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name". (John 20:31)
