There are lots of things about Summer to look forward to. One thing that millions of people look forward to each year is a holiday. Some people spend massive amounts of money on their perfect holiday, booking the perfect location, finding a hotel, getting your name on the passenger list, buying new clothes, exchange of currency, planning each day and dreaming about all the things they are going to do. Many people even mark off each day on the calendar, counting down to the big off. Finally when the day arrives you pack up the car, or get a taxi to the airport, and you’re away. The trip has begun!
But lets get to the point. Its fair to say that a lot of preparation has gone in to making your trip a reality. Now what would you think of someone who had been looking forward to their holiday , boasting about what they would do and where they would go, and been convinced it would be the best trip ever, but had made no arrangements.
I think we would all agree they had been a bit foolish. So you arrive at the airport, the flight is on time and all you have to do is check in…………… Then it hits you, passport? No passport!
The sad truth is without a passport, you are not going anywhere, no deep blue sea, no sun, no golden sandy beach. Life is a bit like this. Some people believe that this is it, life is what you see and what you make of it, then you die. Live for the moment! Most people believe in, something, but are lost and confused , and hope to end up in Heaven, after all it sounds nice there, and if they hope for the best, surely God will let them in.?
Consider this, if we spend so much time and effort preparing for one holiday in the sun, how much more should we be making preparations for our final journey. The good news is we can know for sure what our destination is, and that, like with a passport, we can know exactly how to gain entry.
The Bible describes Heaven as a wonderful, perfect place, where there is no sorrow, no tears or pain, and we can be with God for ever. But because it is perfect, no sin can enter. Every person has sinned, and there is a gulf between us and God as a result. But Jesus, Gods own perfect son, died on the cross so our sins could be forgiven. Now, although we could never be good enough on our own, and no good deed can ever make up for our sin, Jesus death has bridged the gap between us and God, and through Him we can be reconciled to God, and know that if we believe in Christ, we will join Him in Heaven when life on Earth is over. This is the promise of the Bible. And it is so important to make our preparations Today!
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life
it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment
