Then were there brought unto Him little children, that He should put His hands on them and pray. (Matthew 19:13)
God does care and when the water at the Brook Cherith dried up God told Elijah to travel to Zarephath and there he would meet a widow who would give him food and drink.
When Elijah got to Zarephath he saw a woman outside the gates of the city. She was the widow that God had spoken about. She had a young son and had come to collect sticks for a fire. Elijah called to her. "Please could I have some water to drink." The widow nodded and went to fetch some water for him.
Then Elijah added "and please could you bring a small piece of bread."
The widow turned and said "I only have a handful of flour and a little bit of oil in a jar. Look, I'm gathering sticks so I can prepare a small meal for my son and I, then we will die."
The widow believed what Elijah said and followed out his instructions, so however much flour and oil she used there was always some left to make another meal on another day.
This showed her that God is the Creator and controls His creation. He cares for the people that love Him.
