1 TIMOTHY (2 Series)
1 Timothy - Keeping the Church On-Track (Steve Case)
The Apostle Paul gave young Timothy responsibility for the church at Ephesus. Paul was particularly concerned about the negative effect of false teachers on the work and witness of the church, as well as on the lives of individual believers. Paul wrote to Timothy to instruct, help and encourage him, as he dealt with various problems in the church. Though addressed to Timothy personally, the letter was intended to be read by all the believers in Ephesus because they would need to support Timothy in his task. Likewise the epistle is relevant to all believers today because we all have an interest in keeping the church on-track.
1 Timothy - A letter to a friend (Steve Taylor)
The Church at Ephesus had problems. In this letter to his deputy Timothy, the apostle Paul presents a recovery plan. The theme is the local church: ‘the pillar and ground of the truth. The Church is presented as the pillar which upholds the great truths of the gospel to a lost world. It is vital therefore that every Church should be functioning as God intended and described in His Word. In the 6 chapters which follow Paul deals with the Church’s doctrine, its prayer life its leadership its membership. He ends the letter with a conclusion which corresponds to the introduction and a personal appeal to Timothy.
“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory”
