HANDLING THE WORD 2020

Note: Apologies but on messages 2 and 3 the are short periods of noise which reduces the quality.

Few things are more important in the Church of Jesus Christ than correct handling of the Word of God. In this matter, as in other aspects of the Christian life, good training and instruction are essential. This day conference brings two experienced Bible teachers both of whom have pastored Churches and are well used to preaching both from the pulpit or from the pavement (open air) to share their knowledge and experience in how to Handle the Word. The conference was intended for all those who have any responsibility for public (one to many) or personal (one to one) preaching and teaching in Church, Sunday school or evangelism.

A brief summary of the  messages is below:

1. David Harding     Before we get started

A grasp of the ‘big picture’ of the Bible is important. This talk presents a helpful bible overview with accompanying power point slides

2.  David Gayton    The story of redemption and preaching #1

The bible message is centred on the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ: He is central to Scripture and should be central in all of our preaching

3.  David Harding    Passages and messages

Each bible passage has a theme and a purpose. It is important for the bible teacher to ask the question: ‘why is this passage in the Bible?’ when we discover that then our purpose in expounding it should co-incide with that of the holy Spirit in inspiring it. Some common books and passages are considered and their purpose identified.

4.  David Gayton    The story of redemption and preaching #2

The bible message is centered on the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ: He is central to Scripture and should be central in all of our preaching. In this message an overview of 2 Chronicles is given.

5.  David Harding   Getting to the point

A good message should inform and persuade: getting to the point and finishing well is essential part of every message from the pulpit or from the pavement.
